Our Vision
The Way The World Is
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
Worldwide Documentaries is a not-for-profit company of dedicated and highly skilled professional filmmakers whose purpose is to change the way the world thinks about itself.
Too few people, we believe, have a true understanding of the way the world is today. It is a world, increasingly, where small islands of wealth are surrounded by vast oceans of poverty and despair. It is a world that has allowed its most vulnerable citizens—children, women, and the profoundly poor—to starve; to be preyed upon by human traffickers; to die of malaria, AIDS and other preventable diseases; to be tortured, mutilated and raped; and to suffer man’s inhumanity to man on an unprecedented scale.
The global village, we believe, is not a happy place for most, and it can be a horribly frightening place for many, whether they live in the heartland of the United Sates, or in Europe, Africa, Asia, or Latin America.
Yet our knowledge of the way the world is has not led us, at Worldwide Documentaries, either to bitter anger, or debilitating despair. Rather, we believe in the inherent, and inspiring, goodness of ordinary people, and their capacity to respond to the truth when it is beautifully articulated, and powerfully told. Through A Closer Walk, our recent film about the global AIDS epidemic, we have seen how millions and millions of people, literally, can change the way they think and, consequently, the way they act. Knowledge is power, we believe, and one of the best ways to create knowledge on a broad scale is through this extraordinary medium of film in which we have chosen to work.
Margaret Mead wrote that small groups of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. These small groups—thousands of them, wherever they may be—are Worldwide Documentaries’ constituencies. Thank you for visiting our website. We hope your visit may be the beginning of a small group of your own.
